FAQs

What is a sorority?

A group of women attending college, representing greek letters for a purpose (academic, social, philanthropic, etc.).

What philanthropies does Sigma Omega Phi represent?

Sigma Omega Phi supports two main philanthropies: Women Empowerment and Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness. Each year, each campus holds a Women’s Symposium with keynote speakers and different topics to raise awareness to current women’s events and issues. Blue Ribbon Week is also held annually at each school to raise money for a local school, family, or kids’ shelter in need.

Does Sigma Omega Phi haze?

As Sigma Omega Phi stands for Women Empowerment, we have taken a vow against hazing in any form and continue to uplift and encourage new and existing members to grow.

How long is the process?

Although each chapter has a structure on how the process is run, it is different every semester, every class. The process can take anywhere from 4 - 10 weeks. During this time, prospective members learn about the history of Sigma Omega Phi, what we stand for, and what it means to be a Sister through bonding and interactive activities.

What if Sigma Omega Phi is not on my campus?

We are always looking to expand our sisterhood into new areas. If you are interested in bringing what we have to your campus, contact any of our Sisters or one of our Instagram pages to learn more about expansion, and how we can work together to bring the Swans to your school.
