What We Do
Since 1990, Sigma Omega Phi has been a foundation for women to come together to grow. We prioritize academics, service, and sisterhood.
Our Mission
Sigma Omega Phi provides young women with the tools and skills to break into academic and professional success. We encourage strong values, while connecting with our community and peers alike.
Academics
Sigma Omega Phi Multicultural Sorority Inc. prioritizes academics over everything. As college students, there is a lot of encouragement, resources, and understanding that school comes first. During the process and as a sister, study hours are required based on the number of units each student is enrolled in. Along with assigned study hours, the Vice President of each Chapter does check-ins on a regular basis to ensure sisters are on the right track to succeed academically.
Our Sacramento State Chapter currently was awarded highest GPA of all sororities in the USFC Council in Fall of 2022.
Our Chico State Chapter currently holds the highest GPA of all sororities and fraternities on campus!
Service
Sisters and prospective members are to participate in a minimum of 3 service events per semester. Events, fundraisers, and donations include but are not limited to supporting: Women Empowerment and Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness
Women’s Symposium - Every Spring, sisters host an event with games, presentations, and guest speakers to discuss a topic related to Women Empowerment. “A Walk in Her Shoes” is popular at this event, where men get the chance to walk down the runway in high heels!
Blue Ribbon Week - For one week, we will host games, pledges, and open the conversation on campus to Child Abuse and Neglect. During this time, we invite those on campus to think what actions they can take to decrease the number of children struggling to succeed or even live a normal childhood. Donations are collected to purchase toys, school supplies, and sometimes food for a locally selected school or classroom.
Sisterhood
Through the process into sisterhood, we grow to learn, love, and care for one another. We all started as strangers, and came out with life-long friends. We encourage you to come to our socials, talk to the sisters of Sigma Omega Phi on your campus, and see if we are the right fit for you!
